New Tool Predicts Life Expectancy For Long-Term Care Users; Goal Is To Facilitate End-Of-Life Planning
Researchers in Ottawa, Canada have developed a new tool to predict how much time community-dwelling people receiving long-term care home services may have left to live. Researchers hope that the Risk Evaluation for Support: Predictions for Elder-life in the Community Tool (RESPECT) will assist in end-of-life planning discussions and decisions. RESPECT falls under the health algorithm umbrella of Project Big Life, which also created a heart health calculator earlier this year. RESPECT is currently going through focus group evaluations for acceptability, usefulness, and potential improvements before it is released for general use in 2019.
