New Utah Law Requires Fathers To Pay Prenatal Child Support
On March 16, 2021, Utah Governor Spencer Cox signed legislation, House Bill 113 (HB113) to amend the Utah Child Support Act to include provisions that require a biological father to pay for half of prenatal costs that are not paid by another person. The father’s responsibility extends to insurance premiums, pregnancy-related medical costs, and the hospital birth of the child.
The legislation states that fathers will be responsible for up to half of the mother’s out-of-pocket costs, specifically excluding costs covered by the mother’s health insurance. The father’s share will be assessed only . . .
