Number Of People On I/DD HCBS Wait Lists Rose Nearly 12%
Between 2016 and 2017, nationwide the number of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) on waiting lists for home- and community-based services (HCBS) increased 11.6%. This is an increase from about 424,735 in 2016 to 472,997 in 2017. Texas alone makes up about 46.0% of these individuals, with 217,786 on waiting lists in 2017.
Additional findings regarding HCBS waitlists include:
Nine states (California, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New York, and Washington) and the District of Columbia had no waiting list for HCBS services.
