One-Third Of Americans Who Arrange Caregiving For Adults With Dementia Hire Individuals Not Associated With A Provider Organization
About 31% of Americans who arranged for paid caregiver services for a family member with dementia hired an independent caregiver not associated with a home care provider organization. About 65% of those who hired an independent caregiver also provided or arranged for unpaid care for the individual with dementia.
The odds of hiring an independent caregiver were about five times higher among people living in rural areas. Across all geographic regions, those who opted to hire an independent caregiver were 66% less likely to be currently working.
