Orlando, Florida Launches Program To Send Mental Health Professionals To Non-Violent Police Service Calls
On February 28, 2021, the City of Orlando and the Orlando Police Department launched a one-year pilot community response team (CRT) program that will send mental health professionals to respond to police calls for non-violent situations. In December 2020, the city contracted with Aspire Health Partners, Inc. to provide trained mental health professionals for the pilot. The contract is valued at $466,406, plus about $25,000 to cover transportation services for consumers. The city will have the option to extend the 12-month contract for up to three 90-day periods.
