September 11, 2006 Depression Claims Account for Five Percent of Long-Term Disability Claims Among long-term disability claims filed with UnumProvident from 2004 through 2005, five percent were the result of depression. Approximately four percent of short-term disability claims cited depression as the cause of the claim. Long-term disability (defined as more than 90-days) claims caused by depression have remained at approximately five percent for three years.
