North Carolina Family Connects Reduces CPS Investigations For Abuse/Neglect & Child Emergency Medical Care
The Durham, North Carolina Family Connects universal newborn nurse home visiting program reduced child protective services (CPS) investigations for abuse and neglect by 39%, and total child emergency medical care use by 33% for children through 5 years of age. Positive effects held across child medical risk at birth, child health insurance, child sex, single-parent status, and racial/ethnic groups. However, effects for decreased emergency medical use were larger for non-minority families than minority families.
