Pennsylvania To Close Hamburg State Center For Residents With I/DD On August 3, 2018
On July 10, 2018, the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) announced that the Hamburg State Center for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) will close on August 3, 2018. Hamburg State Center's 154-acre campus is located in Berks County.
Plans for the closure were officially announced on January 11, 2017. Prior to transitioning, the facility's 80 residents participated in a series of assessments and planning meetings in order to determine their level of need for services and support in the community.
