Pioneer Accountable Care Organizations Saved Medicare $61 Million In 2016
The eight remaining health care providers participating in the Pioneer Accountable Care Organization (Pioneer ACO) saved Medicare nearly $61 million in fiscal year 2016, the program's final year of existence. The Pioneer ACO model was a pilot program started in 2012 by the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS') Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation. The Pioneer ACO model originally included 32 health care provider organizations that accepted risk of loss in their contracts.
