Poverty, Incarceration & Unemployment Increase Risks Of COVID-19 Death
Socioeconomic vulnerability, such as poverty, incarceration, or unemployment, increases the risk of dying from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). “Socioeconomic vulnerability” encompasses potential negative effects on communities caused by external stresses on human health, housing and food security, and economic impacts such as job loss and poverty. The increased risk for these socioeconomic vulnerabilities are as follows:
Severe housing problems: These individuals are 4.5 times more likely to die from COVID-19 than the general population.
