ACA Led To Lower Uninsured Rate Among Those Aged 19 To 25
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) reduced the share of uninsured young adults aged 19 to 25 years by half, from 30.2% in 2011 to 16.0% in 2018. The share of young adults covered by Medicaid increased 4.3 percentage points, from 11.1% in 2011 to 15.4% in 2018. The uninsured rate decreased the most among young adults from low-income households, as well as those who identified as Hispanic or non-Hispanic Black adults.
