SAMHSA Proposes Changes To Addiction Treatment Privacy Rules
On August 22, 2019, the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) announced a proposed rule to make changes to health record privacy for addiction treatment. The rule amends provisions of CFR 42 part 2 regulations on confidentiality of health records of people receiving addiction treatment. The rule loosens restrictions on information sharing, with the goal of improving care coordination.
