Suicide Risk Higher In People With Recent Diagnosis Of Dementia Or Mild Cognitive Impairment
The risk of suicide is higher in those with a recent diagnosis of dementia or mild cognitive impairment (MCI) than those without either condition. A total of 0.7% of those with MCI (138 individuals), and 0.6% of those with dementia (400 individuals) attempted suicide between initial analysis and follow-up analysis, compared to 0.4% of those with neither condition. Those with MCI had a 73% higher chance of a suicide attempt, and those with dementia had a 44% higher chance of a suicide attempt, than those without either condition.
