In 2017, the District of Columbia (D.C.) had the highest average annual cost for private pay assisted living, while Missouri had the lowest. The U.S. median annual cost for assisted living was $45,000 in 2017. The median cost for private pay assisted living in D.C. was about $80,400; while the cost in Missouri was about $32,400.
