U.S. Sees 17% Increase In Fall-Related TBI Deaths Over A Decade
Deaths due to a fall that resulted in a traumatic brain injury (TBI) increased by 17% between 2008 and 2017, from about 3.9 per 100,000 persons to 4.5 per 100,000, according to an informational analysis by researchers for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This represents a total of 17,408 fall-related TBI deaths in 2017. The rate increased among nearly all age groups, especially among those age 75 and older (an increase from about 42.9 per 100,000 in 2008 to about 54.1 per 100,000 in 2017).
