U.S. Senator Romney Proposes Universal Cash Child Benefit Replacing Other Child Support Initiatives
On February 4, 2021, U.S. Senator Mitt Romney announced plans to introduce legislation to create the Family Security Act, a plan for cash payments for families with children. The plan would provide $350 per month for each young child (ages 0 to 5) and $250 per month for each school-aged child (ages 6 to 17). Parents would be eligible to receive the monthly cash benefit starting four months before a child’s delivery date.
