Utah Hospital-At-Home Model For Cancer Care Demonstrates Lower Costs & Better Outcomes
Participants in an acute care-at-home model for people with cancer called “Huntsman at Home™” operated by the Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) in Utah, had lower 30-day costs and lower utilization of emergency department and hospital services compared to people who received usual hospital care for cancer treatment. Costs for the Huntsman at Home participants were about 47% lower than costs of those who received usual hospital care. In the 30 days after study entry, Huntsman at Home participants had 55% fewer hospitalizations, 45% fewer emergency department visits, and shorter hospital stays by one day.
