On April 27, 2021, the federal Department of Justice announced that Brookside Rehabilitation and Nursing Center (BRNC) located in Warrenton, Virginia agreed to settle a lawsuit alleging that it violated the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by denying admission to a deaf applicant. The complaint alleged that BRNC denied admission because the person requested sign language interpreting services. The ADA prohibits covered entities from excluding individuals with disabilities from their services because they require auxiliary aid or services, such as a sign language interpreter.
