Los Angeles Spends $100 Million Annually Managing Homelessness; Most Of Cost Is Related To Arrests & Police Services
The City of Los Angeles spends $100 million a year on homelessness. About $87 million of that is related to arrests and police services. The other $13 million represents costs to other city departments for interactions with homeless individuals or issues related to homeless individuals.
About 14% (14,838) of the 104,255 people arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department in 2013 were are recorded as being transients.
