Younger PACE Participants With Disabilities Spent Fewer Days In SNFs Than National PACE Benchmarks

Younger adults with disabilities enrolled in a Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) spent fewer days in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) than participants in PACE programs nationwide. The 51 study participants had an average age of 61.0 years, compared with 75.5 years among PACE participants nationally. Only three participants, or 5.9%, were admitted to a SNF during the one-year study period.

However, the younger participants used more acute care than the national PACE population. They averaged 2.8 emergency room visits per member annually, compared with 0.9 nationally, and 1.1 hospitalizations . . .
