Adverse Social Determinants Of Health Linked To Higher COVID-19 Death Rates

Adverse social determinants of health may partially explain regional differences in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) death rates. Counties in the United States that had higher death rates attributed to COVID-19 tended to have higher rates of adversity in terms of the percent of uninsured adults, the percent of low birthweight births, the percent of adults without high school diploma, the incarceration rate, and the percent of households without internet. For each one-percentage point increase in these indicators, COVID-19 death rates also rose.
