Connection Impossible
After all this time (and money), interoperability of consumer data is still a ‘wish’ for most clinicians. A recent survey found that external integration of consumer data (interoperability) was the most requested electronic health record (EHR) fix by physicians (see EHR Interoperability 2024).
The findings are not surprising. Slightly less than 50% of physicians responded that their EHR has an "expected" amount of interoperability—44% responded that their EHR had the “needed external integration.” And data integration topped the list of ‘most requested’ EHR fixes at 22%—followed by better data accessibility (21%) and reduced documentation burden (20%).
