For Whole Person Care, It’s All About The Data
The big push for 'whole person' approaches to health care was ushered in with the PPACA. A combination of parity, the end of preexisting condition exclusions, the end of annual and lifetime limits, and the changing rules on health insurer spending on treatment pushed health plans to look more 'holistically' at the members they serve. This led to the many experiments with integrated care, the end of traditional carve-outs, and the emphasis on interoperability. This shift has reshaped the market for specialty and primary care provider organizations.
