California To Spend Extra $42 Million To Help Foster Youth During COVID-19
On April 13, 2020, California Department of Social Services (DSS) implemented plans to spend another $42 million to help youth avoid aging out of foster care during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) public health emergency. The additional funding will be used to provide monthly payments of $200 to families with “at-risk” children. A determination that a child is “at-risk” of entry into foster care is based on the Emergency Response and Family Maintenance caseload.
