Workforce—including supply, retention, and upskilling—remains a major strategic issue for most health and human service organizations. One indicator—turnover rates are high—even in the c-suite. Through May, the chief executive officer turnover rate was the highest in the recent past, up 19% (see CEO Turnover Slows In May 2025; YTD Highest On Record). For nurses, the turnover rate is 24%, 18% for licensed clinical staff, and 16% for nonclinical professionals.
