California Proposition 1 Passes; Counties To Spend More To Reduce Homelessness & Addiction
On March 5, 2024, California voters approved Proposition 1, to amend the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) of 2004 and rename it as the Behavioral Health Services Act (BHSA) to encompass an expansion to cover addiction treatment services. The proposition provides a $6.4 billion bond to build 4,350 housing units and 6,800 mental health and addiction treatment beds. Half of the housing units will be reserved for veterans.
