Aetna Acquisition Of Humana Blocked By Federal Judge
A federal judge has blocked health insurer Aetna's acquisition of Humana. Attorney generals from Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia joined with the Justice Department to stop the merger in July, 2016 – one year after the acquisition announcement was made. A 13-day trial on the case was held in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia last December, after which Judge John Bates concluded that Aetna's acquisition of Humana would violate federal antitrust laws.
