HCFA Announces New Medicare Hospital Outpatient Payment System
The Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) has announced a new Medicare payment system for hospital outpatient services that is designed to encourage more efficient delivery of care and ensure more appropriate payment for services by Medicare and its beneficiaries. Over time, the regulation will save beneficiaries millions of dollars in coinsurance payments for outpatient services, according to the HCFA. The new payment system will also apply to partial hospitalization services furnished by community mental health centers. The new payment system is expected to go into effect . . .
