Medicare Skilled Nursing Days Down 15% Between 2009 & 2016
Between 2009 and 2016, the per capita number of Medicare fee-for-service beneficiaries with a skilled nursing facility (SNF) stay dropped by 15%. In 2009, these beneficiaries had 1,808 SNF days per 1,000 beneficiaries. In 2016, the per capita rate dropped to 1,539 SNF days per 1,000 beneficiaries. Similarly, between 2009 and 2016, Medicare stays per 1,000 beneficiaries decreased 17.5%, from 1808 in 2009 to 1539 in 2016.
