Prevalence Of CKD Highest In U.S. Regions With High Poverty
The prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) among fee-for-service (FFS) Medicare beneficiaries over age 65 was higher in U.S. counties with higher-than-average poverty levels. Across U.S. counties, about 22.1% of Medicare FFS beneficiaries had CKD, and the average poverty rate was 15.4%. As the poverty rate increased, the prevalence of CKD increased from 20.9% in counties with lower-than-average poverty rates to 23.4% in counties with the highest poverty rates.
