Primary Care Physicians Report Difficulties Helping Consumers Manage Prediabetes & Chronic Kidney Disease
Primary care physicians (PCPs) have difficulties helping consumers manage chronic kidney disease (CKD) and prediabetes, according to a pair of recently released studies. One study identified individual, physician, and health system barriers to managing CKD in primary care. Out of a focus group of 32 PCPs, 45% said they did not follow CKD management guidelines. Many said they were not comfortable managing complications of CKD such as anemia (44%), bone disorders (50%), and metabolic acidosis (69%).
