The last 48 hours have been a lesson in the dependence of the health and human service field on the government. On Tuesday night, 2,000 organizations received email notices from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) that their grant (or grants) had been summarily cancelled with minimal notice.
