Greetings from lovely Clearwater Beach and the last day of the 2026 OPEN MINDS Performance Management Institute. We were wrapping up today’s many discussions of performance management and financial sustainability on the heels of the newly released analysis—Healthcare Sector Bankruptcy Filings Have Slowed, But Financial Challenges Persist—finding that bankruptcies in health care slowed for a second consecutive year in 2025. This was based on analysis of Chapter 11 bankruptcy filings among health care organizations with more than $10 million in liabilities.

But within these overall numbers are some trends to note. Bankruptcy filings of very large health care organizations remained at the elevated levels seen in 2023. Senior care accounted for a large proportion of the bankruptcies. And bankruptcy…
