HHS Finalizes New Rules To Enhance Integrated Care & Confidentiality For Addiction Treatment Records
The federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) finalized new provisions governing confidentiality of addiction treatment records to enhance provider organizations’ ability to integrate care while still protecting consumer privacy. With these new provisions, provider organizations will be able to ask consumers for a single, one-time consent to cover all future uses and disclosures of consumer information for treatment, payment, and health care operations. Under previous regulations, the consumer was required to grant a separate written consent for each use and disclosure.
