Practice + Payments: An Art Or Science?
There has long been tension between art and science—and this has been a point of contention in health care as long as I can remember. I have an experience early in my career that illustrates this divide. I was speaking to a state association of social workers and suggested that the mandatory use of evidence-based practices for certain conditions would be positive for consumers and the social workers serving them. The response was swift—an assertion of the “artistry” of social work services that “defied quantification.”
