Recidivism among justice-involved consumers is a huge challenge for the criminal justice system – within three years of release from state prison, 67.8% of prisoners were arrested for a new crime; within five years, 76.6% were rearrested. The Bureau of Justice statistics found that of the prisoners who were rearrested within five years, more than one third were arrested within the first six months of their release, while more than half were rearrested within the first year of their release (see Recidivism of Prisoners Released . . .
